Week 48 Results

Albeit, late, but here they are. Can you believe we have less than four weeks left this year? Man, the time has flown by.

Our playoff finals are actually underway this week between The Grateful Tread and Give 'em Gels. I expect this to go all the way to the wire!

I am trying to get all the registration complete for the 2012in2012 Club so I can hand this off to fellow members to take over next year. Should have several posts about this next week on the forums.

Take Care,
Glenn

Week 43 Results

Hey Club members...

Round 2 of the Quarter-Finals is complete; see the bracket below for the current standings.

Head2Head Matchups
The semi-finals will be held in Weeks 45-47. There will be one off-week (Week 48) and then the finals will be held from Weeks 49-51. Week 52 will have no team matchups.

Here is the current bracket:

Also, the five teams whose All-Stars won the matchup earlier this year will each be able to use an additional 5% scoring bonus in any of their matchups (Teams: iRunners, BTYBLTH (already used their's), Run Track Minds, Give Em Gel, and Beer Me Glenn!).

Important Club & Personal Announcement
I will be stepping down from the role of Club Admin at the end of this year.

This may be no surprise to some of you - given my lackluster ability to post results - and in that regard I feel badly that I've not preserved the high enthusiasm as in past years. This Club deserves to have a person at the helm who can help motivate fellow runners to reach and exceed their goals.

I'm very proud of how the Club has evolved since Karina (keenagirl) and I picked it up in mid-2008. A lot of credit must go to the Team Captains for keeping this organized and fun. I have always emphasized that this is an individual achievement club, but the teams do help a lot.

I will run the Club for the remainder of the year, but hope that someone will step forward and take on this role for 2012 and have spoken with a few members who have expressed an interest in taking over next year. I will be glad to assist the next admin with 2012 signups and such. There are several RWOL folks who have demonstrated some excellent database/web development skills that exceed my own and could really make some improvements to the function of the Club.

I still hope to participate as a member myself once I get my running mojo back (i.e., organize my time better), so I'm not saying goodbye. Just, "Thank You" for letting me be a part of this cool Club.

Take Care,
-Glenn

Signups for 2012in2012
P.S. It's almost time for signups for the 2012 Edition. We usually have them from end of October and run through early December. Keep your eyes open for a registration thread.

Hey Club members...

Well, the Playoffs are underway and our first matchups have been completed. BTYBTLH defeated Twisted Blisters in a very close match (only four mile-points separating them), and Beer Me Glenn! won over Mötley Shües. They go on to the quarter-finals.

Week 39 Results

Hey Club members...

Lots of things to talk about, so without further ado...

Head2Head Matchups
Week 40 (October 3-9) is the final regular season matchup week. The playoffs begin next week (Week 41, October 10-16) with a "buy-in" round for the bottom four teams.

The 7th & 10th place teams - and the 8th & 9th teams - will face off in single matchups to determine who will advance to the quarter-final round of the playoffs.

The quarter-finals will be held in Weeks 42-44, with all matchups being best two-of-three. The semi-finals will be held immediately after that in Weeks 45-47. There will be one off-week (Week 48) and then the finals will be held from Weeks 49-51. Week 52 will have no team matchups.

Here is a bracket showing how this is set up (letters correspond to final regular season ranking... "A" = 1st, "B" = 2nd, and so on to "J" = 10th):

Also, the four teams whose All-Stars won the matchup earlier this year will each be able to use an additional 5% scoring bonus in any of their matchups (Teams: iRunners, BTYBLTH, Run Track Minds, Give Em Gel).

Week 32 Results

Hey...as usual, I'm late getting the blog updated, but it is finally updated (including the Summary and Detail tables below).

The All-Star Matchups were just amazing last week and now we can start looking forward to the playoffs in a couple of months. The Club is also about to crack 200,000 miles for the first time ever and we're on pace to break 300,000 miles! Wow, I never imagined we'd hit that mark.

Anyway, y'all have a great weekend!

Week 27 Results

Hey Folks...sorry for the delay in updating the blog, but the summary table and detail posts table are updated. Don't know why the format is all wonky, but the numbers are good.

The All-Star Matchup will begin in just a few weeks (August 1-7), so teams should begin electing their representatives (four per team). Two teams with twenty members (representing five teams each) will face off for the All-Star title. The winning team grants an extra 5% bonus to be used later in the year during Head2Head - including the playoffs!

Y'all take care,
Glenn

Week 20 Results

Hey, the results for Week 20 have been posted. See the link on the right for the RWOL results.

Position round is THIS WEEK in the Head2Head matchups. This means that all teams are matched up by their order in the standings (i.e., 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th, and so on). Should be some great matches.

Sorry for the delay in getting the results to you all; work has been very interesting!

Glenn

Week 16 Results

Hey Club members,

Week 16 results have just been posted (see link on right). We're about 3,200 miles over our goal pace so far and I don't see any signs of that dropping anytime soon.

We're now in our second quarter of the year, so if you're well above or behind your goal and don't see any significant change in your training, you should consider revising your goal. You may do so ONE TIME by June 30. Just send me a PM on RWOL and let me know.

Week 12 Results

Well, you folks are continuing to do a great job! We're now over 1,700 miles above our goal pace at this point. We've cracked 80,000 miles and not even completed the first quarter of the year!

Week 9 Results

Hey Club Members!

This week our Club reached a very significant milestone. For the first time since I've been running this club (Summer of 2008) we - as a group - are OVER OUR PROJECTED GOAL PACE! Currently, we are 389 miles over.

I never really thought we'd get to that point and I just have to say I'm happily surprised! I think helping moderate the goals at the beginning of the year helped a lot in this regard and I appreciate all of you who went along with the new guidelines and took my suggested revisions to your goals.

Hopefully, many of you will be able to increase your goal before the deadline on June 30.

Y'all have a great week!

Week 6 Results

Hey Club Members!

The results for Week 6 have been posted (see link on right of this page).

Nine of the ten teams reached 100% posting and I think next week we have a good chance of seeing all teams reach that mark.

I mentioned later in the Week 6 results thread that the Club overall is doing very well in terms of staying close to our collective goal pace (currently the total annual goal is 288,533 miles).

The split between members above pace and those below pace is pretty evenly split, so I think this is a good indication that the actions we took in regards to goal setting may be working out well. Obviously, this will be clearer by the midpoint of the year after persons have had a chance to adjust their goals (remember, June 30 is the deadline for making any change to your goal).

Y'all have a great week!

Week 5 Results

Hey Club Members!

Well, we've reached a breakthrough week. You will now see Individual awards for all categories now that we've gotten five weeks of posting to base them on.

Also, I finally managed to wrangle the table data for the Summary Table below and hope this helps you all get a better idea of your progress. I do hope to get the Detail Posts table up today as well.

Keep your eyes open in the next week or so for a members-only contest. The prize will be a $15 gift certificate for RoadID products.

Y'all have a good week!

Week 2 Results

Well, Week 2 is in the books (link to results on the right) and our first week of Head2Head matchups has begun. It's gonna be a great year, I know it.

As you can see, I haven't published the Summary Results table or Detailed Posting table yet. Blogger just can't handle an HTML file that large and I'm going to have to find a way to trim it down before posting here. But I'll work on getting them published as soon as possible.

Y'all have a great week!

2011in2011 Head2Head Challenge

The Head2Head challenge is a friendly competition of teams formed from those 2011in2011 club members who want to participate. The idea is to give you some additional support from your fellow Club Members (as teammates) and to provide another incentive to post in a timely manner.

Teams will be formed with approximately the same number of team members and total goal mileage per team.

Each week, teams will compete head-to-head in a round-robin format. I will record wins & losses for each team and records will be posted in the results thread following the week's matchup. Each team should select a captain to track down non-posters in the results thread.

At the start of the year, we will score only the top 75% of posters (based on the size of the smallest team). However, if ALL team members post by the weekly deadline (12:00 Noon Central Time on Wednesdays), the team will receive a 10% bonus in scoring. In this case, even if a runner posts “zero” miles, they benefit the entire team!

Unlike previous years when we did not add new members to teams, we will now allow Individual members to replace dropped Team members. This will be done in a manner that best-maintains the team strength (i.e., similar goals/paces of members).

Nevertheless, we will continue to use the following rules should teams change size:

1) The top 75% of runners – rounded up - will be counted towards the team score. This cutoff number is based on the number of team members of the smallest team. For example: if the smallest team has 20 members, the scoring cutoff is 15; if later on, the smallest team has 14 members, the cutoff is 11.

2) If the smallest team has half or less the number of members of the largest team, it will be immediately disbanded and members distributed to the remaining teams in such a manner as to best maintain parity among teams (i.e., number of members per team and average goal mileage per member).

3) There will be no trades of team members after the start of the 2011in2011 Club.

Hopefully this game will create more of a reason to keep up running and posting. If you have an objection to the team that you have been "drafted" to you may request a trade, but only before Head2Head competition begins (Week 2 at the earliest). To do so, get in contact with another similar goal mileage runner you wish to swap teams with and let me know. Of course, both runners must agree to the trade.

The Game Plan

There will be a regular season consisting of the first 40 weeks of the year and a playoff bracket for the final 12 weeks. Over the course of the regular season a single team will face the other 9 teams at least 4 times and every 10th week there will be a "Position Round" (like in bowling leagues).

Also, near the midpoint of the season there will be an All-Star Matchup where the top runners of each team (selected by their team members) will face off for an extra 5% bonus that the winning members' home teams can use later in the year, including the Playoffs.

After the regular season, the teams will head into the Playoffs (new format to be determined; either double-elimination or multiple-round single elminiation).

2011in2011 FAQ

Q. What is the correct posting format?

A. Please post in the following format:

RWUsername,Week#,Miles

Note that all values must be separated by commas. Avoid any further text on the first line of your post. You do not have to “bold” your text.

Example: If I ran 26.4 miles in Week 6, I would post:

ZubenElGenubi,6,26.4

Q. Why is the posting format so strict?

A. I use several VBA macros in Excel that help me “read” the data from the posting threads and update the database. Without these tools, I would be unable to quickly process all the data from the dozens of club members each week. Any deviation from the above format means that either a member’s post may be missed or I have to manually edit the database. This takes time and prevents the results from being posted in a timely and accurate manner.

Q. When is the posting cutoff?

A. All weekly mileage needs to be posted by Wednesday at 12:00 Noon Central Time. This gives club members three (3) full days to post their mileage.

Q. How do I update my mileage if I missed posting?

A. There are three ways:

1) Simply post “late” in that week’s posting thread.

2) Send me a PM with your weekly miles using the correct posting format.

3) If the next week’s posting thread is already up, you may post your missing weeks there. Just add an additional line with the previous week(s) mileage.

For example, if you missed Week 4's thread wait until the Week 5 thread comes along and your post will look like this:

Username,5,46

Username,4,32

Q. Can I make changes to my goal?

A. Yes, but you may only change your goal ONE TIME between January 1 and June 30, 2011 (Week 26).

Q. What if I get injured or sick?

A. If you know you will not be able to run for an extended period of time due to any medical reason, please send me a PM and I will place you on Injured Reserve (IR). This will preclude you from having to post each week and will also allow your team to still possibly gain bonus points when all other members post on time. If you are ready to return from IR, send me another PM and I’ll reinstate you.If you are not on IR and do not post for four (4) consecutive weeks, you will automatically be removed from the club. There are no exceptions!

Q. What if I am unable to post because of vacation, military service, or travel?

A. Send me a PM letting me know in advance and I will exempt you from posting. You must specify the Week # and/or dates you will be unavailable. Upon your return, you must still post your miles for that period as described above (“missed posting”). If a member has three (3) outstanding missing weeks, the member will automatically be removed from the club.

Q. I think my stats might be incorrect. How can I check this?

A. You can check your full year statistics on the blog in the 2011 Mileage Data table at the bottom of each blog page. If you notice an error please send me a PM and I can correct it right away. Also, it's important to check your data regularly to make sure it corresponds with your own running log.
