Week 39 Results

Hey Club members...

Lots of things to talk about, so without further ado...

Head2Head Matchups
Week 40 (October 3-9) is the final regular season matchup week. The playoffs begin next week (Week 41, October 10-16) with a "buy-in" round for the bottom four teams.

The 7th & 10th place teams - and the 8th & 9th teams - will face off in single matchups to determine who will advance to the quarter-final round of the playoffs.

The quarter-finals will be held in Weeks 42-44, with all matchups being best two-of-three. The semi-finals will be held immediately after that in Weeks 45-47. There will be one off-week (Week 48) and then the finals will be held from Weeks 49-51. Week 52 will have no team matchups.

Here is a bracket showing how this is set up (letters correspond to final regular season ranking... "A" = 1st, "B" = 2nd, and so on to "J" = 10th):

Also, the four teams whose All-Stars won the matchup earlier this year will each be able to use an additional 5% scoring bonus in any of their matchups (Teams: iRunners, BTYBLTH, Run Track Minds, Give Em Gel).

Signups for 2012in2012
Can you believe that I'm talking about this already? But yes, signups for the 2012 Edition should begin around the end of October and run through early December. Keep your eyes open for a registration thread.

Important Club & Personal Announcement
I will be stepping down from the role of Club Admin at the end of this year.

This may be no surprise to some of you - given my lackluster ability to post results - and in that regard I feel badly that I've not preserved the high enthusiasm as in past years. This Club deserves to have a person at the helm who can help motivate fellow runners to reach and exceed their goals.

I'm very proud of how the Club has evolved since Karina (keenagirl) and I picked it up in mid-2008. A lot of credit must go to the Team Captains for keeping this organized and fun. I have always emphasized that this is an individual achievement club, but the teams do help a lot.

I will run the Club for the remainder of the year, but hope that someone will step forward and take on this role for 2012. I will be glad to assist the next admin with 2012 signups and such. There are several RWOL folks who have demonstrated some excellent database/web development skills that exceed my own and could really make some improvements to the function of the Club.

I still hope to participate as a member myself once I get my running mojo back (i.e., organize my time better), so I'm not saying goodbye. Just, "Thank You" for letting me be a part of this cool Club.

Take Care,
-Glenn

Week 27 Results

Hey Folks...sorry for the delay in updating the blog, but the summary table and detail posts table are updated. Don't know why the format is all wonky, but the numbers are good.

The All-Star Matchup will begin in just a few weeks (August 1-7), so teams should begin electing their representatives (four per team). Two teams with twenty members (representing five teams each) will face off for the All-Star title. The winning team grants an extra 5% bonus to be used later in the year during Head2Head - including the playoffs!

Y'all take care,
Glenn

Week 20 Results

Hey, the results for Week 20 have been posted. See the link on the right for the RWOL results.

Position round is THIS WEEK in the Head2Head matchups. This means that all teams are matched up by their order in the standings (i.e., 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th, and so on). Should be some great matches.

Sorry for the delay in getting the results to you all; work has been very interesting!

Take Care,
Glenn

2011in2011 Head2Head Challenge

The Head2Head challenge is a friendly competition of teams formed from those 2011in2011 club members who want to participate. The idea is to give you some additional support from your fellow Club Members (as teammates) and to provide another incentive to post in a timely manner.

Teams will be formed with approximately the same number of team members and total goal mileage per team.

Each week, teams will compete head-to-head in a round-robin format. I will record wins & losses for each team and records will be posted in the results thread following the week's matchup. Each team should select a captain to track down non-posters in the results thread.

At the start of the year, we will score only the top 75% of posters (based on the size of the smallest team). However, if ALL team members post by the weekly deadline (12:00 Noon Central Time on Wednesdays), the team will receive a 10% bonus in scoring. In this case, even if a runner posts “zero” miles, they benefit the entire team!

Unlike previous years when we did not add new members to teams, we will now allow Individual members to replace dropped Team members. This will be done in a manner that best-maintains the team strength (i.e., similar goals/paces of members).

Nevertheless, we will continue to use the following rules should teams change size:

1) The top 75% of runners – rounded up - will be counted towards the team score. This cutoff number is based on the number of team members of the smallest team. For example: if the smallest team has 20 members, the scoring cutoff is 15; if later on, the smallest team has 14 members, the cutoff is 11.

2) If the smallest team has half or less the number of members of the largest team, it will be immediately disbanded and members distributed to the remaining teams in such a manner as to best maintain parity among teams (i.e., number of members per team and average goal mileage per member).

3) There will be no trades of team members after the start of the 2011in2011 Club.

Hopefully this game will create more of a reason to keep up running and posting. If you have an objection to the team that you have been "drafted" to you may request a trade, but only before Head2Head competition begins (Week 2 at the earliest). To do so, get in contact with another similar goal mileage runner you wish to swap teams with and let me know. Of course, both runners must agree to the trade.

The Game Plan

There will be a regular season consisting of the first 40 weeks of the year and a playoff bracket for the final 12 weeks. Over the course of the regular season a single team will face the other 9 teams at least 4 times and every 10th week there will be a "Position Round" (like in bowling leagues).

Also, near the midpoint of the season there will be an All-Star Matchup where the top runners of each team (selected by their team members) will face off for an extra 5% bonus that the winning members' home teams can use later in the year, including the Playoffs.

After the regular season, the teams will head into the Playoffs (new format to be determined; either double-elimination or multiple-round single elminiation).
